Cortex's mother is an unseen character initially mentioned in Crash Twinsanity. She is the mother of Doctor Neo Cortex. The identity of her husband and his whereabouts are unknown.
She is mentioned by Cortex on two separate occasions in Crash: Mind over Mutant. At one point, Cortex compares being with Uka Uka to marrying his own mother. He then defensively states that he would not do such a thing, implying an Oedipus complex on Cortex's part. He mentions his mother again over the Space Head intercom when he discovers that his favorite photo of her has been stolen. He demands that the Space Head security retrieve it and immediately return it to "its place of honor on top of [his] urinal". During the fight against Crash in the Space Head, Cortex says "Who's kicking who now, Mom?", implying that Cortex's mother previously abused him.
It is stated in the BradyGames Strategy Guide for Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex that Cortex's whole family was involved in the circus, and that they loved the spotlight, but were blown up in a "freak" accident, which is assumed to be caused by Neo Cortex's past shenanigans. The "torch passing" of the game between different developers has caused many controversies between the stories. Nevertheless, Cortex's hate for his mother has not changed throughout the series, whether she has died or not.
Cortex mentions his mother in a line in Crash Nitro Kart in races, which he sometimes says when his vehicle is damaged whilst driving.
In Crash Twinsanity, in a Boiler Room Doom cutscene, Cortex says that he has studied about his mother, but the reason is unknown.
