The Crash Bandicoot series is a long-running video game series created by gaming company Naughty Dog. The Crash Bandicoot series has been running for thirteen years, and in its lifespan has released more than fifteen video games. The series started out in 1996 with the video game Crash Bandicoot and has since then took off into its own huge franchise. Originally created by Andy Gavin and Jason Rubin, Crash Bandicoot is the main protagonist throughout most of the series; the main antagonist of the series is Doctor Neo Cortex, a mad scientist bent on global domination. The Crash Bandicoot series has contained three different genres of games: platformers, racing games and party games. The most popular games in the series consist of what is known as the "main" series, which consists of 3D platformers. The Crash Bandicoot series has been released on a large array of systems, including home consoles and handheld game systems. Originally starting out with a 32-bit game, the Crash Bandicoot series has gone through many graphical changes throughout the years.

Crash Bandicoot is the main protagonist in his titular series of games. He made his debut in 1996 with the release of Crash Bandicoot for the Sony PlayStation. Crash Bandicoot had to fight his way through several stages full of obstacles and enemies in order to rescue Tawna from the mad scientist Doctor Neo Cortex. After that, Crash Bandicoot became extremely popular, receiving four more games for the PlayStation until going into the multiplatform business with Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex. Many characters have fought alongside Crash in his platforming adventures, but many have also fought against him during these times. Crash has gone through many physical changes from his original 32-bit appearance to his current 128-bit appearance. Crash commonly thwarts Doctor Neo Cortex's plots for world domination as his adventures continue.

Aku Aku

Aku Aku is the guardian of the Wumpa Islands and Crash Bandicoot's mentor. Aku Aku first debuted alongside Crash in Crash Bandicoot in 1996, guiding Crash and protecting him from the many enemies that would get in his way. Initially appearing as a power-up, he became a full-fledged character in Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped in 1998, in which he had his first speaking role. Aku Aku is the only protagonist character other than Crash to appear in every single Crash Bandicoot installment thus far.

Doctor Neo Cortex

Doctor Neo Cortex is the main antagonist throughout most of the Crash Bandicoot series. He first appeared in Crash Bandicoot for the Sony PlayStation, having created and subsequently rejected Crash Bandicoot and holding his girlfriend Tawna captive. He is a mad scientist bent on world domination and is the final boss in a majority of the platformers. Neo Cortex is the uncle of fellow antagonist Nina Cortex. Doctor Neo Cortex has appeared in almost every spin-off game in the Crash Bandicoot series, and is the only character besides Crash and Aku Aku to appear in every installment of the series thus far.

Coco Bandicoot

Coco Bandicoot is a protagonist in the Crash Bandicoot series. She is the sister of Crash Bandicoot and is known for her high intelligence. In her first appearance, she communicates with Crash and investigates Doctor Cortex's true intentions. In subsequent appearances, she is often a playable character alongside Crash, and has appeared in every spin-off in the series.

Doctor N. Gin

Doctor N. Gin is an antagonist in the Crash Bandicoot series and is the right-hand man of Doctor Neo Cortex, replacing Doctor Nitrus Brio. Doctor N. Gin first appeared in Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back, acting as the penultimate boss in the game. Doctor N. Gin has made numerous appearances in the Crash Bandicoot series, often alongside Doctor Neo Cortex. He has appeared as a playable character in all three Crash Bandicoot racing titles as well.
