Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart 3D is a kart racing game developed by Polarbit and published by Vivendi Games Mobile. It was released on July 9th, 2008, and was available on the App Store for the iPhone and also released on N-Gage service, Symbian and the Brazil-exclusive video game console, the Zeebo. It is the 16th installment in the Crash Bandicoot series.
The evil Nitros Oxide of Crash Team Racing (misspelled as Nitrous Oxide in the game) has teamed up with Dr. Neo Cortex and Ripper Roo and are now holding a kart championship in order to lure Crash and friends out into the open. The winners are to be crowned “Kings Of Kart Racing For All Eternity”, and the losers are to be banished from N. Sanity Island forever.[2] Throughout the game's eight missions, Nitros Oxide steals Wumpa Fruit and grass from Yaya Panda's Grassland to fuel his and Cortex's new machine, capable of turning said valuable resources into petroleum (also known as nitrous oxide).
The game was announced as a counterpart to Crash Nitro Kart 2, which was originally called Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart.[3] As a result, the games share some content and mechanics. The story is similar with only a few small differences, the same characters serve as the main heroes and villains, the playable roster is mostly the same, outside of the exclusion of Tiny Tiger and Nina Cortex, most of the items are present in both games, and the title screen music is identical. Some versions of the game even reuse character icons from CNK2. However, the karts and tracks are taken directly from Crash Tag Team Racing, with some alterations.
Players control their kart using tilting controls for devices that support them, and the arrow pad for those that don't. On devices that support the N-Gage service, the 5 button is used to hop and the 8 button is used to use items.
This game has 12 stages for players to unlock.[4]
