The Iron Arrow Crate functions identically to the regular arrow crate: it gives the player a boosted jump to top cliffs or reach crates and other prizes otherwise inaccessible. Like all iron crates, the iron arrow crate cannot be broken.
The purpose of the iron arrow crate is to prevent the player from hindering access to the level by destroying the arrow crate needed to proceed. It also serves as an alternative crate for secret levels and gem paths, allowing the player to obtain all of the crates in a level for a clear gem without having to access the paths and secret levels to smash crates. They can also act as hazards if an Iron Crate is bouncing on top of an Iron Arrow Crate, as Crash will be crushed if he is between the Iron Arrow Crate and the Iron Crate.
In Crash Team Rumble, they appear as an unlockable power the player can equip. When activated, the crate spawns beneath the player, effectively giving them an extra jump. The crate will explode after a second, dealing knockback to nearby opponents.

Trivia[]
- Like its wooden counterpart, the iron arrow crate can be manipulated into a non-bouncing platform for the player to stand on. By spinning right before landing on the crate, the player is able to stand, not bounce, on the crate. This can be undone by simply jumping on the crate again. In The Wrath of Cortex, however, this does not work.
