In this game, both Clamidosaurs and Iguanas appear to inhabit the lost city ruins area of the second island. The two species look alike from a superficial stanpoint but vary in looks and behavior.
First of all, the Iguanas walk on two legs and slowly move back and forth, staying on the ground the entire time. Clamidosaurs, instead, prefer to jump around, moving faster and doing big leaps across the stage. Also there are two variants of this species, different in both color and agility. The Clamidosaurs will only jump in certain areas in the level, so the player needs to memorize their path and try to avoid them. There are certain areas in the level where the Clamidosaurs will jump over chasms, which causes the player to time their jumps correclty in order to avoind being hit in the head by them passing the lizards.
Both species can be defeated by either spinning them away when their horn is facing the opposite direction, or by jumping on them.
There are certain points in the level where the player must use the lizards as a trampoline to reach higher platforms and bonus tokens.
Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back
In Cortex Strikes Back, different Salamanders appear fleeing from the Giant Polar Bear in Un-Bearable. This lizards can be seen jumping over obstacles instead of breaking them like the polar bear.
Clamidosaurs reappear in this game, but this time in the form of Cyborg Clamidosaurs. They first appear in Road to Ruin and then reappear in all the ruin and dark jungle levels. The player can only defeat them by sliding into them as they have a burning frill around their necks and spikes on the top of their heads.
In The Huge Adventure Salamanders appear again in the jungle and ruin levels. They are now purple in color and have green eyes.
Spike Clamidosaurs appear again first in the level Ruined and look the same as they did in Cortex Strikes Back, but fully organic this time.
Crash Bandicoot Purple: Ripto's Rampage
In Ripto's Rampage, Salamanders appear in Wumpa Jungle and are featured on one of the trading cards. They have the same design as in The Huge Adventure.
Lizards would have returned as enemies in Crash Twinsanity as there is a piece of concept art of a gecko-looking lizard. It probably would have featured in the lost ruins of Wumpa Island, but like most of the enemies, it was cut from the game.
Lizards play a background role in Crash of the Titans, where they are seen crawling around on trees at the side of the level.
