The lizards are green or red with spikes in nature and appear in The Lost City and Sunset Vista and these looks like more Central Bearded Dragons. When Crash first encounters these enemies, they are walking on all four legs. However, there are variants that stand on their hind legs and start hopping around across the screen. The lizards will only jump in certain areas in the level, so Crash needs to memorize their path and try to avoid them. There are certain areas in the level where the lizards will jump over chasms, which causes the player to time their jumps when passing the lizards. The lizards can be defeated by either spinning them away when their horn is facing the opposite direction, or by jumping on them. There are certain points in the level where Crash must use the lizards as a trampoline to reach higher platforms and bonus tokens.
Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back
In Cortex Strikes Back, different lizards appear in some levels. Salamanders appear fleeing from the Giant Polar Bear in Unbearable. However, one was seen jumping while running. Spike lizards first appear in Road to Ruin and then reappear in all the ruin and dark jungle levels. These are based on frill-necked lizards. Crash can only defeat them by sliding into them as they have a burning frill and head spikes.
Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex
In The Wrath of Cortex, lizards reappear in the levels Banzai Bonsai and Crash and Burn. They are green with yellow spots, walk on the ground, and will damage Coco or Crash if they run into them.
Crash Bandicoot: The Huge Adventure
In The Huge Adventure lizards appear again in the jungle and ruin levels. They are now purple in color and have green eyes. Spike lizards first appear in Ruined and look the same as they did in Cortex Strikes Back.
Crash Bandicoot Purple: Ripto's Rampage
In Ripto's Rampage, lizards appear in Wumpa Jungle and are featured on one of the trading cards. They have the same design as in The Huge Adventure.
Lizards would have returned as enemies in Crash Twinsanity as there is a piece of concept art of a lizard. It probably would have featured in the lost ruins of Wumpa Island, but like most of the enemies, it was cut from the game.
Lizards play a background role in Crash of the Titans, where they are seen crawling around on trees at the side of the level.
