Power-shield 320x320

Power Shields are weapons in Crash Team Racing, Crash Nitro Kart, Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart 3D, and Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled. They are green spherical force shield that surround the player kart and prevent damage taken from opposing weapons and obstacles by 1 hit. In Crash Team Racing, pushing the Circle button will fire the power shield and if it hits another player, it will cause damage given to opponent. For this reason, a second power-up cannot be used in CTR without firing first power shield away.

Power Shields can't be fired in the console ports of Crash Nitro Kart. If the player crashes into an opponent while wearing a power shield (or vice versa), the power shield will be destroyed and the opponent will take damage. After a certain amount of time, the green power shield will fade away. Juiced up power shields are colored blue and they will last permanently until the juiced up power shield is successfully destroyed.

In Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart 3D, shields appear as clear bubbles. They cannot be fired. They protect the user from player weapons only, not track hazards. The juice up mechanic does not exist in this game. A shield lasts about ten seconds.

Descriptions[]

Crash Team Racing[]

  • Manual

"Normal - The green shield protects the player from being hit by one weapon or obstacle for a few seconds once activated. After a few seconds the shield goes away. The player can also choose to fire the shield like a bomb by pressing the Circle button again. Juiced Up - This blue shield does not fade out, but instead lasts indefinitely until hit by a weapon or obstacle. The player can also choose to fire the shield like a bomb by pressing the Circle button again."

  • Prima strategy guide

"Normal: Gives you temporary protection from power-up weapons and crashes with opponents — it disappears when hit. If you are not hit, the shield will disappear in 12 seconds. You can also fire it an opponent to spin them out. Juiced Up: Same as normal, but will last for an unlimited amount of time (so long as you do not get hit with a weapon or run into an obstacle). NOTE: Although you can obtain an item from a "?" Crate while using a Power Shield, you cannot fire this new weapon until the Power Shield runs out (normal) or until you fire it off (juiced up)."

Crash Nitro Kart[]

  • Console manual

"This protective green bubble will save you from getting hit by one weapon or hazard. You can also attack your opponents while it's on by bumping into them. Once you get hit by something or run into someone, the shield will disappear. It will also fade away after a few seconds, even if you don't use it. Juiced - The blue juiced bubble still goes away when you hit something, but it has no time limit."

  • GBA manual

"This protective green bubble will save you from getting hit by one weapon or hazard. You can also attack your opponents with it by bumping into them while it's on or by launching it using the power-up button. It will fade away after a few seconds even if you don't use it. Juiced - The blue juiced bubble still goes away when you hit something, but it has no time limit."

  • N-Gage manual

"This protective green bubble will save you from getting hit by one weapon or hazard. You can also attack your opponents with it by bumping into them while it's on or by launching it using Power-up Key. Once activated, it will fade away after a few seconds even if you don't use it. Trivia[]

  • The Power Shield is the only weapon in Crash Team Racing without known counterpart in the Mario Kart series. However, its ability to protect the player from one hit of another item is similar to holding a Banana Peel, Green Shell or Red Shell behind the player kart in Mario Kart, which serves as protection from behind.
