The spike rats were originally sewer rats taken by N. Gin and mechanically enhanced with metal bodies consisting of a faceplate with glowing eyes and a metal frame going around their bodies. N. Gin also installed spikes on the sides of the rats to help them withstand a fight with Crash. However, the top of the rat is exposed, leaving a place for the player to jump onto and eliminate the spike rat for good.
Spike Rats perform different functions in each level:
Waddling along the pipes and rooms of the sewers.
Chasing each other around in circles.
Defeating the Spike Rats
Spike Rats are much tougher to get rid of than the Scrubbing Bubbletrons due to their spiky protection, with the only possible method of ridding them being jumping or body slamming on the beasts.
