Turtles are reptiles most well-known for their bony or cartilaginous shells which serve as a natural shield. They also appear as generic enemies in a few Crash Bandicoot games.

Overview[]

Crash Bandicoot[]

Spotted turtles are a relatively common enemy during Crash's first adventure. When flipped over, they can be used to jump higher than usual. They're first encountered on N. Sanity Beach, where they serve as basic enemies. They later appear patrolling the borders of Papu Papu's village (in The Great Gate and Native Fortress). Finally, The High Road has many gaps to cross by bouncing off of turtle shells.

Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back[]

In Cortex Strikes Back, turtles each bear a bionic eye and come in two new varieties. One has spikes on either side, eliminating the possibility of using spin or slide attacks; the other has a running buzz saw on its shell, and jumping on it will hurt Crash. Both types can be found in Turtle Woods and The Pits.

Crash Team Racing[]

Turtle shells serve as trampolines on the track Mystery Caves, always appearing in pairs of two, side-by-side.

Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex[]

A sea turtle makes an appearance in Crash and Burn, not as an enemy, but as a platform that aids Crash in getting over a segment of water at the beginning of the level, where it dons a snorkel, goggles, and a circular platform strapped to its back with an N mark on it.

Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy[]

Turtles reappear in the N. Sane Trilogy remakes of the first and second games, where they reprise the roles they had in the original versions of those games.

Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled[]

Spotted turtles reappear in Nitro-Fueled in Mystery Caves, where they reprise the same role that the turtle shells had in the original version of Crash Team Racing.

Crash Bandicoot: On the Run![]

On the Run! sees the return of the saw blade turtle variant from Cortex Strikes Back, where they appear in the levels Turtle Woods and Dino Might!, walking back and forth across the path. They are more like tools than enemies, usually being positioned in such a way that attacking them causes them to fly back into TNT or Nitro crates, detonating them and clearing the way or breaking item crates. They will still damage the player if contact is made without attacking, anyway.

Trivia[]

  • Despite having their own artwork in the Japanese guide, the Spiked Cyborg Turtles use their American artwork in the description in the enemy list pages, while everywhere else has it with its own artwork.
